Don and I are now retired after MANY years in the medical field. We have lived all across America, border to border & coast to coast. However at retirement we chose to settle on a farm (real working farm) in the Bluffs of the Nebraska Panhandle. Below is how we came to own this wonderful breed.
In 2001 the last of our two Labs passed away from old age. Don had always wanted a Newfie so we started searching. We were living in the middle of the Black Hills National Forest (SD) then and a perfect place for a Newfie. However there were no Newfie breeders near us. We searched and finally found Blossoms breeder in far NW Montana. We waited a year for the litter and watched her daddy win Breed at Westminster 2 years in a row.
That and the fact Blossom was beautiful started us in the world of dog showing. Up until then our showing consisted of showing our Arabian Horses in local shows and pony clubs for the kids.
The world of dog showing is so much fun for the entire family and we have made many friends because of it. I highly recommend it.
Next came Ellemae and what a beauty! A sweeter more intelligent girl there will never be. Her breeder was in Illinois but the litter was whelped in Colorado. Elle was a dream to show and finished her Championship quickly. She is a lovebug.
Then we saw a brown Newfie and never had I ever seen such a beautiful creature. When we started looking for a puppy, we found Europe had been breeding browns much longer than here in America. So search we did and found Jaspers breeder. She was very concerned about selling a puppy so far away and we had to go to Germany to be approved before getting the puppy. I wish we had of stayed longer in Germany. It is a beautiful country with wonderful people. We came home with Jasper. It seems there is a German connection with all our dogs. Blossoms breeder was from Germany, Elle's mom was imported from Germany, and the rest follows.
Well ya can't have just one brown so 2 years later we again looked to Germany for a girl. By then many German breeders had started importing American lines in their breeding. We finally found Rosie's breeder in the northern part of Germany near Denmark. The pedigree was fantastic and we knew enough people in Germany by then that the breeder agreed to ship her. You never know for sure how a puppy will mature but Rosie has far exceeded any expectations we had for her. She is drop dead Gorgeous.
Now we wait to see to see what Jasper and Rosie produce.
